I am currently finishing up an MSc in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto.  I study computer vision, My supervisor is Sven Dickinson and my thesis is on bottom-up contour grouping with symmetry priors.  I will be staying for a PhD, but I have not yet decided on a research topic.

Vision
Basic research goes hand-in-hand with practical applications. A small number of fundamental problems form the core of very many commercial applications of computer vision.  These problems include representations of object shape and appearance, and tracking of object motion.  I believe that for a correctly posed question, a partial solution to one these problems can be theoretically significant and lead to immediate practical application.  Consequently, I keep a foot on both sides of the fence, industry and academia.

Research Interests
My last project was on bottom-up object recognition without a prior model.  Instead, I assumed that objects consist of proximal symmetric parts.  Basically, I want to get from A to B:

Industry Experience
I have a broad background in low and intermediate-level computer vision, particularly in the context of mobile robotics.  I am a part-time consultant, and I always welcome new clients.  I can instantly tell which algorithms should be confined to the lab, and which can hold up in the unpredictable environment where your product operates.  Whether you are a large company or a startup, I can pick and implement an appropriate off-the-shelf algorithm, or design a custom-made one.
