Arts and Science Competition Rules
 
In order that the most talented artisans in the Knowne World have a chance to prepare, here are the rules:
  • It is a Viking themed competiton
  • It will be a judged competition, using Kingdom A&S judging sheets
  • It will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the main hall.
  • No limit to the # of entries.  Let's get lots of art out there!
  • At least one page of documentation required (see summary sheet below). 
    • Minimum: description of item, how it was made (technique), materials used and a bibliography.  How is it like what was made in period-how is it different?
  • If you have bardic or other performance art, please contact me so that we may arrange a time for the judges to listen and watch.
  • Of course there will be a lovely prize for the winner.

Static Item Summary - A one page summary sheet that introduces your item.


As Researched; (= All answers should be based on your research of the period item)

Item – What was the period item called?
Time Period – What time period was the item from?
Location – Where was the item from? (country/area)
Who made  – Who made/owned or used this item?
Purpose – What was the item’s purpose?
Common Materials – What period materials were used to create the item? (woods, metals, fabrics, threads/yarns, paints, papers, inks, ingredients, dyes, etc.)
Construction/Methods/Techniques – How was the item made? (how was pattern made &/or transferred, techniques, tools used, stitches, etc. (as related to the item)
 

As Created; (= your way)

Item – What are you calling your item? (perhaps also include what inspired its creation)
Time period – Based on what time period?
Location – Based on from where?
Who made – Also include credits to any help you may have had.
Purpose – What will the item be used for?
Materials – What materials did you use to create your item?
Construction/Methods/Techniques – How did you make your item? (how was pattern made &/or transferred, techniques, tools used, stitches, etc. (as related to the item)
 
Alternative materials &/or techniques - note any substitutes…if there are none, then note there are None.
 
Personal Notes - Any notes on what you found interesting about your project are worth mentioning, positive &/or negative. You may help guide others with their own endeavors by offering your discoveries, suggestions, ideas, what worked & what did not, etc.
 
Show all the categories, even if they have the same answer. The more that match indicates more authentic-like materials, techniques & skills were initiated.
