Hnefatafl
Rules Setup - The King and his men (white pieces) are to be set up on the center squares with the King in the center spot. His enemies (black pieces) are to be set up on the four edges surrounding him. Play - The 'King ' side moves first. All the pieces move in straight lines like the rook or castle in chess, and a piece may be moved any number of squares providing no other piece is standing in the way. A piece is taken by making a move which traps it between two of your pieces, but not on any diagonal. A piece can also be taken by one of the opponent's piece if he is on the edge. A player is permitted to move between two opposing pieces without being taken. The King can only be trapped if he is surrounded by four pieces unless he is on the edge of the board where only three would be needed to 'surround'. The four corner squares and the center square may only be occupied by the King. Winning - The King wins the game if he can manage to get into one of the corner squares. His opponent can win by trapping the King. Nine Mens Morris
Rules Each player has nine pieces which move among the board's 24 intersections. The object of the game is to leave the opposing player with less than three pieces or no legal moves. Placing the pieces-
The game begins with an empty board. Players take turns placing their pieces on empty intersections. If a player is able to form a row of three pieces along one of the board's lines, he has a "mill" and may remove one of his opponent's pieces from the board; removed pieces may not be placed again. Players must remove any other pieces first before removing a piece from a formed mill. Once all eighteen pieces have been placed, players take turns moving. Moving the pieces-
To move, a player slides one of his pieces along a board line to an empty adjacent intersection. If he cannot do so, he has lost the game. A player who aligns three of his pieces on a board line has a mill and may remove one of his opponent's pieces, avoiding the removal of pieces in mills if at all possible. Any player reduced to two pieces is unable to remove any more opposing pieces and thus loses the game. Flying-
The varient of "flying" will not be used in the Axeman V Viking Games Knucklebones
Rules
The rules for knucklebones actually varies ALOT so we are going to be very period about it and vary them even more.
There will be six normal six sided dice on the table. A bead will be thrown in the air and the person must grab as many dice as he can and grab the bead. If he doesnt catch the bead the he will get ZERO points for that round. However, if he does then he will roll however many dice he picked up off the table and that will be his score. After each player has done this, the round is over. Six rounds will be played and the person at the end with the most points will win. |
