My academic experience here at Clemson University has been outstanding! Not only have I benefitted from small class sizes, but I have also developed personal relationships with all of my professors. The nursing students here at Clemson University are trained to graduate as elite nurses. I am a part of the ACUMEN Minority Nursing Program. The acronym ACUMEN stands for Academic Collaboration for Underrepresented Minority Enrollment in Nursing. The focus of ACUMEN is to provide a place of comfort and encouragement for minority students in the nursing program. ACUMEN provides a support system for the minority students and also tutors that can relate to the student on a social and academic level. The mission of ACUMEN is to facilitate enrollment of individuals, including males, from underrepresented racial/ethnic minority and economically/educationally disadvantaged backgrounds into the baccalaureate nursing program. Through the Student Nurses' Association chapter at Clemson University, I have been exposed to a variety of career options that I am capable of pursuing after I graduate. There are a variety of locations and job opportunities that exist outside of the regular medical hospital. As of right now, I am striving to become either a nurse practitioner or a pediatrician.
This is just one of the activities I enjoy doing as a student nurse. Anatomy & Physiology is one of the classes that nurses must take before graduation. This class deals with dissecting preserved animals or body parts and studying their function and purpose in the body. In this photo, I have dissected a pig's heart.
I would suggest majoring in nursing to anyone who has a passion to ensure comfort and effective care to human kind. Nurses have the ability to change the world through their care and spirit. If you have the desire to do this, then I believe that nursing would be appropiate for you. |
