20 & 27 Feb: Competitive Kumite

Program:  Avalon Karate is offering a two part special training opportunity for young karate students  interested in learning more about  “competitive kumite” (sparring event at provincial level tournaments).  This is intended to prepare interested students to compete more effectively in kumite at Karate NL tournaments. 

 

Eligible Participants:  NOW OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS OF ALL AGES AND ALL RANKS  interested in “competition. No prior tournament experience required.  Novice participants will be introduced to “competitive kumite” and more experienced participants will be given the opportunity to improve and refine their kumite skill levels.

 

All funds raised from this activity day will go to financially support Avalon Karate students who are training to compete at the Canadian National Karate Championships in Montreal (March 2011). They are John Stamp (17yrs) Joshua Coady (16yrs) and Kevin Gosse (14yrs)

 

Instructors:  Sensei Derek J Ryan (chief instructor) assisted by Karate NL Provincial Team Members (John Stamp, Joshua Coady, Kevin Gosse).  Also assisting will be members of Avalon Karate who participated in the Atlantic Championships 2011 (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia – Feb 05).

 

Date/Time/Location: *All sessions will be at Mary Queen of Peace School gym 137 Torbay Rd, St. John’s.

·        Part 1:  Sun 20 Feb 2011 Time 9:30am – 12:00pm (2 ½ hrs).

·        Part 2:  Sun 27 Feb 2011 Time 9:30am – 12:00pm (2 ½ hrs).

 

Cost: Full program (Pt. 1 & 2) $30.  One session $20. Registration closes on Fri 18 Feb 2011.  Register via email  avalonkarateclub@gmail.com
