Magnetic Hydrant Wrench - Ajax Air Chisel.

A hydrant wrench is a tool used to remove fire hydrant caps and open the valve of the hydrant. They are usually adjustable so as to fit different sized hydrant nuts.

Remember that right hand rule we talked about? Well, this is a case of when you'd use it. In this case, it really boils down to a fancy pants "righty tighty, lefty loosey". I was going to draw the force diagram, but the torque vector actually comes out of the screen. When you apply a force in a rotational motion, you get torque. Pushing or pulling on a wrench, while unscrewing a nut, creates torque. More torque means it's easier to unscrew that nut. Torque, ? is the product of the force, F, applied, and the length of the lever arm, r. So, if you have a really tight nut, and you're already applying as much force as you can, get a longer wrench to do the job.
