Wimpy Franchise. Franchise Fee Revenue Recognition. Wimpy Franchise
Wimpy! It must have been at least 8 years since I've been into a Wimpy, but today we found ourselves in Marlow, home of one of the last three remaining franchises I know about, and of course HAD to stop by for lunch. *Homer drool* I think it was probably one of the best meals I've had in years. And the chocolate milkshake was bloody brilliant too. Unfortunately Wimpy have now taken to printing a nutritional guide on the back of their menus which I really wish I hadn't read, but what the hell - I only go there once every 8 years, and if tomorrow I end up being stranded on a desert island for several weeks without any food I've got more than enough energy reserves to fall back on now. Having said that, I did raise the idea that we could move to Marlow simply so we could then visit Wimpy on a regular basis. OK, so we'd only be able to afford a 1-bed studio flat in Marlow, but I'd be prepared to make the sacrifice... Fast food nostalgia
1974 was the annus mirabilis in the UK, when McDonalds set up their first establishment in Croydon, never looking back thereafter. Previously, if you fancied a hamburger, you'd head for a Wimpy. This was a treat I first sampled in Cleethorpes in 1960. Since then, Wimpy's have been overshadowed, undergoing several changes of ownership and the number of restaurants has diminished. Here's a survivor in Addlestone, Surrey, in the latest retro style adopted by the present South African owners of the UK franchise. Bon appetit!
