 John Mohelnitzky, age 19  John Mohelnitzky, son of Anton Mohelnitzky and Mary Ruskauff was born February 3, 1876. He married Emma Brunkalla on October 16, 1901 at Holy Reedemer Catholic Church, Athens, Marathon County, Wisconsin. Witnesses were Louis Fastner, George Schopf, Dorothy Brunkalla and Josephine Fastner. The officiant was Arth E. Muhlenkamp. As told by Dorothy Mohelnitzky Brehmer on September 20, 1992 at her home in Watertown, Wisconsin: Dorothy's
father, John Mohelnitzky, spoke German. His first 3 children spoke
German, but had to learn English to join the Catholic school. John
Mohelnitzky worked for P. C. (Peter Casper) Monday from Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. They had horses when they went out. John sold Jewel Tea and
other things to people. There were no stores in Wausau then. John
ground his own coffee to sell. He peddled to all areas around town.
John sold for P. C. Monday for many years until the early 1930's,
before the war. He was the only one doing it at that time. By then, he
was delivering by truck. He made real good money because he was the
only one doing it. People liked to buy in small amounts instead of

The two children of Elsie (Ed Berndt and Rosa Berndt Hornung) are buried in the John Mohelnitzky plot in Wausau and are identified as Mohelnitzky on the tombstone because they could only be buried there if they were Catholic. Ed drowned in an ice-skating accident. Rosa died of cancer, and had a daughter, Elizabeth. Rosa's husband remarried before Rosa died. John died on November 11, 1949 in Wausau, Marathon County, Wisconsin, and is buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wausau, Marathon County, Wisconsin.
