The Lehner family has their origins in Schömersdorf, Bavaria, Germany. The earliest known Lehner is Andreas Lehner; he died in 1862 in Schömersdorf. In March 1887, Bartholomew Lehner, the grandson of Andreas, immigrated to America. On the same ship was Bartl's future bride Frances Sturm from Braunsried.
