Wenzel Fastner - Baptism

September 8, 1841

Translation:

Wenceslaus [Wenzel] Fastner, male, was born and baptized on September 8, 1841 at Neugebäu. His parents, who were married Catholics, lived at house number 3 in Neugebäu (Czech name Novy Svet).

Wenzel's father was Johann Fastner (Inwohner).

The father of Johann Fastner was Kaspar Fastner (Inwohner) from house number 7 in Neugebäu, and was presumably a subject of Prince Schwarzenberg (this part of the document is illegible).

The mother of Johann Fastner was Anna Maria Schmid Fastner who came from house number 27 in Fürstenhut before her marriage.

Wenzel's mother was as Magdalena Hany Fastner.

The father of Magdalena Hany Fastner was the deceased Johann Hany (Inwohner) of house number 9[?] in Mehregarten, a subject of Prince Schwarzenberg.

The mother of Magdalena Hany Fastner was Anna Maria Schmidt Hany of Außergefild (Czech name Kvilda), house number not written.

The name of the sponsors and their occupation:

Joseph Sollers[?], a "Bleiber" (resident) of house number 9 in Neugebäu, and Clemens [last name and occupation illegible].

The name of the baptismal priest was Mathias Moser, a local priest.

The midwife was from Schwarzhaid, her name is illegible.

Notes:

Neugebäu in Kreis (county) Winterberg is the German name for what is now known as Novy Svet in Okres (county) Vimperk. Neugebäu was in the state of Bohemia (German name Böhmen) in the Austrian Empire.
Currently Bohemia is in the Czech Republic.

An Inwohner is a person (usually elderly or poor), living in a room of a house that is owned by another person. They work for the house owner to pay their rent. A Bleiber could be a person who can't work or can't find work. The Fastner family was very poor because there was no work. That is why they immigrated to Bukovina sometime after Wenzel's birth in 1841 and daughter Rosalia's birth in 1844. Rosalia Fastner, daughter of Johann Fastner and Magdalena Hany, was born June 23, 1844 in Gurahumora, Bukovina, Austrian Empire.

Mehregarten is a lost town, a suburb of Neugebäu in the county of Winterberg.

Schwarzenberg (ze Švarcenberka in Czech) is the name of a Frankish and Bohemian aristocratic family which was first mentioned in 1172. The Schwarzenberg holdings included the following castles: Vimperk Castle (Vimperk / Winterberg, Czech Republic).
