The lure of the open road.
HomeShasta LinksVintage Shasta | I am the proud owner of a 1962 Shasta Compact, complete with the signature wings. The picture at right was taken at the state park at Norris Dam, Tennessee. At some point, I will learn how to pull it and have a vehicle capable of towing it. Right now I do have a pickup truck, but I don't trust it as far as I can throw it. (Not far.) The Shasta Compact is the perfect small trailer: dinette/two bunks, upper cabinets, basic kitchen counter, and (gasp!) a closet. Since my original camping experiences were in a two-person dome tent, having a floor, a sink and a mattress is like a dream come true. Right now the trailer is well restored inside, but needs an exterior paint job. I'm thinking white above and yellow below. I'm a member of several vintage trailer online groups. Mostly I just read the daily email digests. But hope springs eternal that someday I will once again experience the bliss of the open road and a state park walking trail calling to me. |
