The Audities mailing list is for the discussion of "insanely great  pop". Inspired by the late, great music journal Audities, the list is run independently of it or any other magazine, record label, reseller, musical artist/group or other industry entities. Audities is an open list, and anything related to pop, power pop, melodic alternative, country inspired pop or pop-punk is welcome, athough posters are expected to keep their writings about the music. List operation began September, 1996 and current membership numbers 660.

Audities is an unmoderated mailing list. Incoming mail is immediately resent to per-message list members. Digest members get a collection of all posts since the previous digest, averaging 2 digests of 20 posts each per day. Only list members may post; others are returned to sender.

POSTING GUIDELINES

• Only subscribers to the Smoe.ORG Audities-List may post. Audities @ Yahoo Groups is archive-only.
• New subscribers are moderated for the first few days mainly to block spammers and auto-subscribe bots. 
• It is always good to read several days worth of posts before jumping in. Once you do, be respectful of others, avoid the flame, be thoughtful, tactful, witty, friendly -- whatever you are best at. Don't overpost.
• DO NOT make personal attacks. List termination will result.
• Bands and artists, labels, industry people & hardcore fans should AVOID repeated postings of promotional messages. Audities members are wary of being oversold, regardless of your intentions. Make sure to provide links to music samples, website URLs, MySpace, etc.
• DO NOT repost discussions from other mailing-lists or private mail without first getting the permission of the writers. Exceptions would be release announcements, touring schedules and the like. Complete magazine articles should be not be posted, due to copyright and length. Refer to URL links if possible, or use short exerpts.
• DO NOT post virus warnings, spam, or attachments. The mailing-list server filters out attachments and html, so you will only receive PLAIN TEXT messages from the Audities posts via Smoe.org. If you do receive an Audities post with any attachment contact the list administrator <audities-owner@smoe.org>.
• DIGEST posters: when replying please use appropiate Subject headers - ideally the same as the original post (with Re:) to allow readers readers to follow threads. AVOID "Re: Digest audities.v001.n18xx".
• NO long signatures please.

Smoe.ORG archives Audities posts from 1/23/03. To find out how to retrieve archived posts, send an email to <mj2@smoe.org> with the line "help" in the message body.

Posts have also been archived on Yahoo Groups, although recent changes (as of September 2002) limit archive rentention to about 2 years of posts.
