AUCTION IS NOW CLOSED - THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT ITEMS........ As you can see nearly everything went so we have decided to close the auction now and the few remaining items will be put in a raffle at Chappaqua Neighbors' Club Christmas Luncheon on December 2. A big thank you to everyone who made this event so successful. We have raised about $14,000 including cash contributions - counting is still going on. Any further cash contributions that anyone would like to make should be sent in a check addressed to Anthony LeBruno, c/o Chappaqua Neighbors Club, PO Box 434, Chappaqua, NY 10514.
Anthony had his transplant on October 17. The donor was a young man from Germany, 22 years old, found via the National Bone Marrow on-line registry. Without the internet, this may not have been possible. So far so good - Anthony is now at home with 24-hour-care on a regime of intra-venous drugs. The first 100 days are critical. But he says he is feeling better than he has for months, primarily because he no longer has to have chemo-therapy.
LEARN ABOUT ANTHONY AND THE AUCTION
Anthony LeBruno , was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, an aggressive form of cancer, in March of 2009. Anthony and Vicki LeBruno were excited about their first baby, due this Fall. It should have been the happiest time of their young lives. But in March this year Anthony was rushed to the ER with a terrible headache... and their dreams turned into nightmares.
That day, Vicki also found out that the baby's heart had stopped. Anthony was just 27 years old, his wife 25, when instead of planning for their new baby, their lives became centered around a hospita l bed and intensive chemo. But he's fighting back, and with the help of family and friends and the kindness of strangers, a bone marrow donor has been found. Anthony is set for his transplant in October. Because of the severity of his illness and treatments required, Anthony will be unable to return to work for over a year. He's applied for financial aid but many medical expenses are not covered. On top of caring for Anthony, Vicki works full-time, but the bills are mounting and they are struggling to keep their home and stay afloat. To take some pressure off this young family we hope to raise $25,000 through this auction and from donations.
