Florela
Florela
Here she is. My OC Daisy's car, Florela. Part of the credit for her name goes to a friend of mine who helped me think of a fitting name for her^_^. Florela gets her name from the flower design on her tires and steering wheel, as well as her driver:) I love her "Flower Power" license plate^_^. Here's a little more technical info about her; Florela's engine is water cooled and built to be compatible with leaded, unleaded, or diesel gasoline. Mixing two or more types of gasoline will result in backfiring, reduced performance, and finally engine failure. The engine will then be unable to start until the tank is drained and refilled with only one type of gas. For such an event, Florela is built with a second a fuel cap under her gas tank used to drain the tank when needed (or Daisy is in the mood to play a little^_^). Florela also has two seperate safeguards in her engine. The first protecting the engine from irreparable damage from mixed fuel, and the second which shuts off the engine if the temperature gauge reaches it's peak. Florela has a max speed of 100mph and features a retractable top, manual windows on each door, air conditioner and heater, radio, side mounted horn, spare tire, and seats her driver and up to three passengers. That's just some basic info about Florela's engine and some of her basic features. She has the basic essentials. On occasion, Daisy will set herself up to have car trouble. More or less because she enjoys it and the challenge of fixing the problem. Letting air leak from her tires, filling Florela with both leaded and unleaded fuel, draining most of the fuel from her tank, such things. While she has fun with it, she will not do anything that could severely damage Florela's engine. Daisy is quite attached to her little car, and when not having her fun, takes excellent care of it.

#502 Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range (1916) The Baldwin Locomotive Works built this 2-10-2 (Santa Fe) type locomotive for $30,753. It is a good example of a "drag freight" locomotive, able to haul heavy but slow (25-35 mph) trains. It could move 135 car iron ore trains from the mines to the docks at Lake Superior compared to 65 cars for the older 2-8-0 locomotives it replaced. In the late 1920's it was upgraded, getting a feedwater heater, cast trailing truck with a booster engine, and a larger tender. The small booth on the tender is called "the doghouse". It shelters the crew's head-end brakeman and is equipped with a seat, light, and heater. The air tanks were relocated on the top of the boiler and extra sand boxes placed on the pilot deck. In the early 1940's they were replaced by larger, more modern power and then used in heavy ore switching, transfer and local freight work. Its feedwater heater and booster engine were removed in the 1950's. As the end of steam power was coming it was more important to reduce maintenance costs than to improve the locomotive's efficiency. It has 60' drivers, 28" x 32" cylinders, a boiler pressure of 200 lbs., and it weighed 601,610 lbs. in working order. To help it get around curves , the center pair of drivers are "blind", with no flanges on their inner edges. Donated in 1963 by the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway.
