The town of Portorož and how to get therePortorož, is the most vivid and cosmopolitan tourist centre on the Slovenian coast. Development of this tourist site started in 19th century when the health benefits of fango (special salty mud) from the nearby salt pans was discovered. This place is interesting every season of the year and the tourist infrastructure is very highly developed. A wonderful countryside with pleasant climate, many modern hotels, and saltwater swimming pools with, casino -all of these make it a good base for a rest. The local airport enables a quick access from all parts of Europe. A marina nearby is a safe shelter and base for nautical tourism.Travelling to PortorožBy airplane - There are two suitable airports available for travelling to Portorož: Ljubljana airport and Ronchi Dei legionari airport in Trieste (Italy). To do some on-line planning please click one of the icons at the left: Amadeus as independent source or one of the companies flying to Ljubljana. The national airline of Slovenia is Adria Airways.Arrival via Ljubljana Airport - The Ljubljana airport (LJU) is a rather small but friendly airport with a small, competitively-priced duty free shop. It lies 23 km NW of Ljubljana and has regular routes with all main airports in Europe. There are usual services available: currency exchange office (from 7 am. to 8 pm.), currency exchange machine, car rental, phones, restaurants and so on You can take a taxi to Ljubljana for about 40€. There is also regular bus connection from the Brnik airport to the Ljubljana bus station (fare 4€). From Ljubljana you can take a bus directly to Portorož or a train (the bus station and railway station are next to one another) to Koper and then a local bus from Koper to Portorož (15 km, 2€). Arrival via Trieste Airport - The Trieste airport Ronchi Dei legionari (TRS) is another possibility for travelling to Portorož. It is even closer to the Symposium venue, but it is in Italy, so some participants should take care about their possible need for visas. If you come on Sunday, you must take a taxi to Portorož.
