Example Horoscope

Use of Shodasa Varga and Assessment of Strength (Varga Bala) has been explained in the preceding paras.
These 2 methods have not been dealt with by other Maharshies.  It is, therefore, proposed to apply these to an
Example Horoscope by way of illustration :-

graha sputa is a planet's position on the zodiac expressed in Signs-Degrees-Minutes

Rasi Chakra (Appearance)

The rasi chakra drawn for the above planetary positions is given aside. Note the two Pancha Maha Yogas from Moon sign.

Lord of 6th (Satru-sthanadipha) is occupying Asdt with a debilitated planet indicating that the native will not enjoy robust health. This is corroborated by the Lord of Asdt in conjunction with Lord of 8th in 2nd. Even though the Asdt is a watery sign, since Sun is posited therein, the native was not bulky, but of moderate build.

Hora Chakra
(Finance)

6 of the 9 planets are occupying the 12th from Asdt. Financially, his status had never been better than average for  middle class.

However, lords of 2, 5 and 11 are in Asdt in this Chakra. The native's earnings were always good enough to meet his heavy expenses.

Maharshi Parashara is of the opinion (and shared by many) that Sun, Jupiter and Mars have affinity for Moon's Hora. The former group in Sun's and the latter in Moon's Hora get potency for confering results.

Mercury is considered good in both the Horas.

Drekkana Chakra (Brothers)

The native was loved by all his brothers and sisters -
Note the lord of 3 occupying this Asdt and lord of  Asdt occupying the 10th, both of them quadrants. The relationship between the native and siblings had always been cordial and par excellent.

The native was the youngest and had 2 elder brothers and 2 elder sisters.

Turyamsa Chakra
(Prosperity)

Whilst Jupiter occupies exaltation, Mercury, Venus, Moon and Saturn occupy own house.

The native had a house of his own throughout and was always enjoying professionally a status above average and was always liked by his superiors and high personalities.

In this Chakra, the lords of Asdt, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10th are enjoying own house whilst lords of 4 and 7 are enjoying exaltation.

Saptamsa Chakra (Children)

Lord of 5 is in 6th, lord of 8th in Asdt; whilst there are 6 planets in masculine signs. Exchange of signs between lords of 9th and 11th, whilst one quadrant is free from occupation, the other 3 have a malefic each.

He lost 3 children and has now four living (3 sons and 1 daughter). Relationship with children below average.

Navamsa Chakra (
Wife)

Lord of 7th, Mercury is occupying Asdt, whilst lord of Asdt is occupying exaltation but is in 8th. Significator for wife (Venus) is occupying his debilitation. The Asdt, 7th and the sign occupied by the
significator for wife are all dwi-swabhava or double-bodied signs.

The native had two marriages; each one of them was more than average beautiful and dutiful; and both came from poor families.

Dasamsa Chakra (Profession)

Barring Moon, all planets occupy quadrants; Sun is in 10th indicating a successful man professionally. Not only are there 2 planets in 10th, there are also 4 aspects on 10th (two from debilitated planets).
The native had been simultaneously in more than one profession; verily a jack of all trades.

During the major period of Mars, the native held a high administrative post professionally, which he himself resigned as soon as major period of Dragon's Head (Rahu) started. Mars and Saturn are mutually aspecting each other, in addition to aspecting Sun (lord of 5th) in 10th. Jupiter (9th lord) is also involved in this triangle.

During the major period of Jupiter, the native had betterment professionally in addition to academic achievements, distinctions, reputation and respect from public. But it may be asked, has the professional betterment and rise been commensurate with what is indicated by this Dasamsa Chakra ? Answer to this question has to be found from the Bhava Chakra with reference to the strength of the various planets and the over-all-luck of the horoscope.
Rather, the utility of this chakra is limited.

Dwadasamsa Chakra
(Father and Mother)

Significator for father, Sun, who happens to be the lord of 11th in this Chakra is opposed by Mars. The native lost his father at the age of 18 in Moon's major period
(Note Moon in the 8th with a debilitated planet).

The native lost his mother at the age of 45. Note both the 4th from Asdt and significator for mother, Moon, are aspected by Jupiter.

Shodasamsa Chakra
(Conveyance)

In the first house, the lord of Asdt (in this Chakra) is conjunct with a bitter enemy, whilst lord of 4th (significator for conveyances) Jupiter is in 11th from the 4th (or 2nd from Asdt) with benefics in quadrants and malefics on either side. Further, the 9th from Asdt is occupied by D.Head (Rahu) aspected by Saturn.

Throughout his life, the native never owned any conveyance of his own, except that during the major period of Jupiter, he started enjoying I and II class travel on railways. This is perhaps due to Jupiter owning the 4th and standing in 11th thereof.

Vimsamsa Chakra
(Upasana)

Lord of Asdt (in this Chakra) is in 8th whilst lord of 12th is in Asdt. Exchange of houses between lords of 7th and 10th also occurs. Colloquially Upasana means religious worship.

The native was irreligious alomst from birth till 40 years of age.
Thereafter, with the advent of Jupiter's major period, he started evincing greater faith in Lord & Preceptor. Note Jupiter lord of 9th aspecting 9th.

The native went on to become an advanced student of Hatha Yoga.

Sidhamasa Chakra (Education)

Lord of Asdt is in 6th in conjunction with lord of 6th, aspected by Jupiter. The 5th is occupied by lord of 12th.

During the years of schooling, the native hardly made any academic achievement.   During Jupiter's major period,  he made notable
academic and educational achievements and has enriched his knowledge in several fields.

Nakshatramasa Chakra (Strength)
Both the Asdt and lord thereof are hemmed in between malefics, whilst there is Jupiter's aspect on Asdt & lord of Asdt.

This Chakra reveals the strength of the native.
Note Dragon's Head in 6th, in whose major period, the native suffered from Septic poison and for months, was unable to walk or stand on his own, for RAHU is neecha (debilitated).

Trimsamsa

Except Saturn, who is in his own Trimsamsa (no doubt, malefic), all planets and Asdt are on benefic Trimsamsas; hence
no evil is indicated.

Swa-Vedamsa Chakra (Subha-Asubha)

Raja Grahas, Sun and Moon, are occupying Asdt (the former being the lord of Asdt) whilst Asdt is hemmed in between benefics
and another benefic occupies the 9th. The Asdt is therefore well fortified and the native may not be expected to commit sins nor
any evil will befall him. The native has a philosophical bent of mind and has been enjoying luck professionally.

Aksha-Vedamsa Chakra & Shashtiamsa
Both these have to be read together. In the Aksha-Vedamsa Chakra, barring Mars, all other planets are occupying 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11.
Mars is not only in 12th but is also in a malefic shashtiamsa.
Jupiter is not only in 9th, but also on Maheswaramsa, which is benefic. During Jupiter's major period, the native enjoyed ample divine help.

It will be noticed that all the above Chakras were drawn-up using the Ayanamsa, which Dr. B.V. Raman (Editor-in-Chief, The Astrological Magazine, Bangalore, India) has been advocating and using.

In some of the Chakras, it so happens that both Rahu and Ketu occupy one and the same sign; hence, the latter has been omitted.
