Program

The school will be focused on two main topics: "Gravitational lenses and dark matter" and "Black holes in astrophysics"

A (preliminary) list of the lecturers and lectures is the following:

Gravitational lenses and dark matter
(Director: Marco Lombardi)
  • Matthias Bartelmann: Weak and strong lensing in galaxy clusters
  • Claudio Grillo: Dark matter in early type galaxies
  • Charles Keeton: Strong lensing in galaxies
  • Marco Lombardi: Introduction to gravitational lensing
  • Shude Mao: Microlensing

Black holes in astrophysics
(Director: Monica Colpi)
  • Elena Gallo: Microquasars: a bridge linking supermassive black holes to stellar black holes in X-ray binaries
  • Andrew King: Fueling of supermassive black holes through galaxy evolution
  • Alessandro Marconi: Supermassive black holes through cosmic ages: an observational perspective
  • Giorgio Matt: An introduction to astrophysical black holes
At the end of the each daily session, there will be room for discussion and for very short (5 minutes) presentation of the research activities of the participants.  In addition, the hotel hosts a small telescope that will be used in the first half of the clear-sky nights to perform simple observations proposed by the participants.  People wishing to give a short talk or to submit observational proposals are invited to mark the relevant field in the registration form.
