This is the first announcement of the School of Astrophysics
"F. Lucchin" for PhD to be held in Madonna di Campiglio (Trento)
during the week June 27-July 2, 2010.

AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

The School of Astrophysics "F. Lucchin" is adressed to PhD students in
Astronomy and Physics and it is open also to interested young
researchers. The aim of the school is to contribute to their
qualification and provide a common cultural baseline on hot topics of
international research, both observational and theoretical.  The
school is two-years long, being comprised of 4 courses of 1 weak each,
for a total amount of 120 hours of lectures. Each course is about 2
topics, possibly not closely connected. The courses will be held in
centres placed in the neighbourhood of different Astronomical
Observatories and/or Universities to facilitate the interaction
between students and the local astronomical research groups.

TOPICS AND SPEAKERS

Gravitational lenses and cosmology
(Director: Marco Lombardi)

Matthias Bartelmann: Weak and strong lensing in galaxy clusters
Claudio Grillo: Dark matter in early type galaxies
Charles Keeton: Strong lensing in galaxies
Marco Lombardi: Introduction to gravitational lensing
  Schude Mao: Microlensing

Black holes in astrophysics
(Director: Monica Colpi)

Andrew King: Fueling of supermassive black holes through galaxy
      evolution

      observational perspective
Giorgio Matt: An introduction to astrophysical black holes
Bernard Schutz (TBD): Gravitational waves from coalescing black
holes: a new window onto the universe

There will be the possibility for the students to present their
scientific activity in short talks and to perform astronomical
observations using a small (40cm) telescope.
