Past exhibitions

1997 (our first) “Now and Then” : a celebration of the Recreation Ground’s centenary, displaying the ‘Curry Slides’ of village scenes taken on glass lantern slides in the 1890s, with replica photos taken of those same scenes in 1997.

2000. Astons Village History : an ambitious comprehensive display of the Group’s Archive as part of the villages’ Millennium Celebrations.

2001 The Village Hall Re-opens : an exhibition in collaboration with the Village Hall committee to celebrate the re-opening of the refurbished Village Hall.

2004 Another village wide history exhibition, this time to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary (1944) and Ruby Anniversary (2004) of the Village Hall.

2010 Artistry in the Astons. : an exhibition of numerous village pictures dating from the 18th to the 21st century – mostly on loan from village residents.

Held to mark the Astons’ first Garden Safari – a brilliantly successful joint venture by the newly formed Astons Garden Club and the Parochial Parish Council.

2011 The 2nd Astons Garden Safari / History Group exhibition, including :

Ø  The Curry Slides, a display and digital presentation, plus the original glass lantern slides from the 1890s.

Ø  The Millennium Albums.

Ø  The Village News Archive (1968 - to date, and including the setting up of the village website www.theastons.net).

Ø  The Slade Letters (19th century correspondence between Australia and the Astons).
