This collection of glass lantern slides, known as 'The Curry slides', was probably taken by the Reverend Curry of the Aston Tirrold Presbyterian Church, a keen amateur photographer. It is a comprehensive collection showing life in and around the Astons around the turn of the century.
They subsequently passed to his grand daughter, a Miss Lyons, who lived in the village for most of her life. When she left the village in the late 1980s she gave them to a neighbour, Michael Page, who converted them into 35mm slides. In 1997 Michael's grand daughter, Anna Dillon, produced high quality negatives from the slides which allowed photos to be made for an exhibition to celebrate the centenary of the village recreation ground. Called 'The Curry Slides : Now and Then' it included a parallel set of the photos taken to show how particular views have changed - or not - in the last century. |
