Calling All ASSIST Alumni ! In August 1969, 13 young scholars from Germany arrived in the United States -- the first ASSIST Class, pioneers in a fabulous new student exchange program. In August 2008, we welcomed 130 scholars from 14 countries, continuing this venerable tradition. In the intervening 40 years, some 3600 students from all over the world have become ASSIST scholars, more than 2500 of whom are from Germany, the heart and soul of the program.
