(E.C) One hundred years ago, human's main source of entertainment was playing outside and enjoying the outdoors granted to us. Children, instead of wasting their valuable time indoors, spent their hours playing with friends and inhaling the fresh breath of the outdoors. It is until today that the youth of present day is wasted on aspects such as the internet and cellphones. It is known that technology can be used for the well being of science, mathematics, and improved the chances of discovering a cure to diseases such as cancer. However, what are the real reasons behind websites that cannot contribute to a child's growing and learning?
When we walk outside, we add exercise to our life. Exercise is important as it spurs the growth of children to be healthy and strong. For grabbing the attention of little children, people produce websites such as disneychannel.com and neopets.com. The youthful children, who's main source of entertainment should be playing outside on jungle gyms, have their attention captured by these websites. The younger children who spend their time on the computer tend to have a lack of social skills to use on the other children at school. For those much older than the carefree children, there are broadcasting shows. Instead of actually taking the time to go out to a movie theatre, teens and adults watch online websites including youtube and hulu.com.
Television, besides using the internet, is a source of entertainment that everyone can enjoy. By having people sit themselves on a couch for hours, it calls for lack of activity and exercise. Watching television is addicting because ater watching the first thirty minutes, it causes attraction to watching more. Television contains shows that have no contribution to the growing of children and teens. By people relaxing themselves on a couch for at least thirty minutes, they waste time to be doing more important things that will improve our future. Television may have few educational shows, but there are probably more shows without relation to education. It should only be used to watch during free time and when we do not have anything important to do.
Cellphones are most likely the world's most favorite invention of technology. About most of the population have a cellphone that they use to communicate with others. However what is the use of using cellphones to text other friends when already, you are with another group of friends. School's main goal is to teach us information that teaches us the past, present, and what will happen in the future. For most students however, students take up school time by texting during classes. By using cellphones during school time, students waste more time on not learning the material important for quizzes, tests, and star testing. Cellphones are vital for emergencies such as needing help or being lost in an unfamiliar surrounding.
So, can technology bring us a utopian world? Although technology can have its advantages, such as advancing the subjects of math and science, it can also destroy the youth of today. The internet is a world- wide invention that everyone can enjoy. With the use of websites, people tend to waste their time indoors rather than outdoors. Outdoors promote fresh air, the ability to play, and the enjoyment of the scenary. By sitting in front of the computer screen or the television screen, we lack the exercise that we need everyday. By having exercise everyday, little kids can grow up to be healthy and strong. Besides the computer, cell phones are a great source of communication. However, what is the reason behind texting a friend when you are already with your group of friends. Technology can be very useful in promoting science and math, however when it comes to games and shows, technology promote it. Technology cannot make up for exercise, and should be ony used for work and important matters. |
