This book series originally started out as a small project for myself.  I have a son who has Autistic Spectrum Disorder/Asperger's Syndrome. I realized that in the unfortunate event that something ever happened to me, no-one would know all my son's unique ways or the little details that make him the person he is. This would be a huge problem for a new family because they would have to start from scratch, guessing and trying to learn about my sons sensory issues, things that physically hurt him, the way he learns best, the way he listens best.  These are things that an average person does not feel nor could ever understand without experiencing it themselves and struggling with it  themselves.

The books are divided into 29 different title pages and there are extra blank pages that can be filled in over the years as you learn your child's special ways and as they grow and change within themselves also. The book has a photo holder on the front of the cover so that people can see they are reading about a real little person who just wants understanding and acceptance. This may help people see beyond the behaviours that are often challenging and confusing. The photo can be changed over the years as your child grows up.

It is not like a daily journal, it is like a profile on the child that is filled in, in point form and facts.  I realized this would also be a valuable resource for when the child goes to school, stays at a new persons place, goes to respite care etc.  It is a resource that allows family, friends, professionals and strangers to get an idea of what makes the child who they are.  Hopefully it will give them clues on things like what will bring on a meltdown, or how to lessen the likelihood of one, what dreams the child has and how that impacts on their daily life, what foods they will never be able to tolerate so why trying to force them to eat them just wouldn’t work. Knowing these things would help lessen distress for everyone involved and this knowledge can most importantly be used to enable the child to build trust.

I also have another two series of books. One is for the elderly, which includes their past daily routines, their favourite foods, likes and dislikes, etc.  It will give professionals and carers and even family better insight to the person who is being cared for. Hopefully this may help reduce negative behaviours toward the elderly which are often as a result of misunderstandings and lack of time. This is particularly important for those who may suffer with Dementia and not be able to articulate their likes and dislikes verbally, only physically. It may help reduce  the need for medications to calm them.  It also allows carers to realize they are caring for someone who was once young like themselves, who once had dreams and loves and also for them to look beyond their behaviour and see them as a real person.   We will all be old one day and I think we forget that sometimes.

The final book allows parents to write things to their children, so if something unfortunate ever happened then they will not miss that chance. They can include advice they would liked to have given them , stories of their own about themselves as children and stories about their history and upbringing.

As we all know, life is extremely busy and fast.  Sometimes we have good intentions and want to write in a journal or say something to someone, yet honestly, we don't have the time.

This is not a long or difficult process. These books are all titled, you just have to go through and fill the pages out.

It is a positive step and a great opportunity to learn so much more about yourself and the people around you... the most important ones....

the people you call 'family'

I have kept the books in the simplest form.

This enables people to decorate their book, making it individual and personal to them.

Here is one of many title pages

from the children's book,

with enough blank pages behind each one.
