The AEA/ASD
Educational Excellence Joint Committee is a collaborative committee that
develops and oversees AEA/ASD mentoring and instructional coaching programs in
order to support educator success and student achievement. We began meeting in the late ‘90’s when the District and the Anchorage Education Association realized there was a strong need to support new teachers and those veterans who moved grade levels or departments. With our vision and initiative, our mentor program was one of the first in the state! Over the years, the committee has expanded the program to assist not only classroom teachers, but a wide variety of ASD certificated educators which includes, school counselors, nurses, special education, world language educators, librarians, P.E., art, and music teachers. With the implementation of the “new” certificated evaluation system a few years ago, our committee once again recognized the need to support our educators. We created the AEA/ASD Instructional Coach Program in order to provide resources to those educators who are put on a Plan of Professional Support or a Plan of Improvement. There is no other program like this offered in the state. In 2005-06 we won the NEA Saturn/UAW Partnership Award, a National award given to school districts and teacher associations who work in partnership to establish and sustain teacher mentor programs. Our programs are highly regarded as a means for recruiting and sustaining educators and because of this, we have been chosen to present at local educator conferences, as well as leadership conferences in Seattle, Hawaii and New York. 2011-2012 EEJC Committee Members: Mike Belloni - Training & Professional DevelopmentErin Donohue Boyer - Nunaka Valley Elementary Renee Helie - Training & Professional Development Mary Janis - Orion Elementary Pat Odin - Training & Professional Development Christine Scott - South Anchorage High School Colleen Stevens - Training & Professional Development Sandi Toth - Training & Professional Development Cindy Trawicki - Ocean View Elementary & Taku Elementary Donna Williams - Wonder Park Elementary Joe Zawodny - Goldenview Middle School |
