Money has become more then just the currency of America. People tend to turn to money for emotional upliftting methods and to buy things that cant be truly baught.
Hazlitt uses personification to show the standings of what money is and cannot be. He talks about money and being of an object or an actual person. Litterally and truly, one cannot get on well in the world without money. Hazlitt makes the point that life cannot be lived with out some kind of fortune. Money is the key to life at some point to servive. Those who want for it is to pass through life with little credit or pleasure. It becomes hard for people to look at someone in a higher position when they are less fortunat. "It is to live out of the world, or to be despised if you come into it."Americans as a whole, jugde based on what is shown in person. If you come into money you maybe despied as stated in the quote above because of jelousiy. Hazlitt Makes the point that money will not give you the same standings as a person would. It cannot be asked to dinner, or work behind a desk, its is who can act out those actions that matters. Hazlitt shows examples of the desire that some people expierance to become wealthy. By giving examples of those who move to outragous places, marry their landlady, of marry the person not of thier choice all to come up in the world to better themself. This is how important money has become to peole all over the world. Wealth is looked at as not only being good but also wise. By usin money as the guiding light to all lif Hazlitt shows how it can consume a persons well being in all facts of life.
In the ending paragragh Hazlitt discouses how in the end, no matter your achievments or well to dos. People will still gather around your coffian and discousing your misfortunes. It is sad that not everyone can be happy with what they achieve no matter the amout of wealth gained. I believe that any welath gained is better then that lossed. So this feeling that Hazlitt gives to money is mind opening, because no matter what we do it will never feel or breath or become a living organisum. Its just a for of payment. |
