Matisse's Bedroom

Students learned about Henri Matisse and his travels to Morocco. The colors that Matisse discovered in Africa inspired his painting and cut paper collages later in life. The second graders were also influenced by these  colors and used them to design a  hotel room  for kids, in  Disney's Animal Knigdom Resort. If the students finished early they were able to add hidden images of Mickey Mouse in their rooms.  How many Mickeys can you find?

Curious Horses of the Sea
Second graders have been working very hard on collages. The first week they made an under water background, in water color, using only lines. This week they traced a member of the Hippocampus family (Seahorse, Leafy Sea Dragon, or Weedy Dragon)  onto a piece of handmade tissue paper. We will be adding details next week to finish. They are stunning!
