This was the lesson used to select our state fair entry for Kindergarten. The kids became experts on pigs by reading books, and through drawing several different pigs. Enjoy!

Playing with Colors

Kindergarteners have been learning about Primary and Sceondary colors. We leaned about Piet Mondrian who liked straight lines, and Primary Colors. We made maps that look like Mondrian paintings, using cut paper and tempera paint. Finally, they made the maps come alive by playing with them. They used plastic shapes to represent buildings, people, cars and other things you might find in a city.

Here are some questions you can ask your children about the art when it comes home.
  • What are the Primary Colors?
  • How do you make Secondary Colors?
  • What kind of map did they make?
  • What are the different kinds of maps?
  • What is their city like?
  • What are the names of the streets?
  • What are the red shapes, the blue shapes, the yellow shapes?
  • What does sorting mean?

Whistling While You Walk

posted Oct 21, 2009 8:44 AM by slater mapp   [ updated Jul 5, 2010 4:41 PM ]

This week students learned about color families. Please review with your children the primary color family, red, yellow and blue, and the secondary family orange, green and purple.

We also talked about our favorite places to walk around, Disney World, our neighborhood, or the track. Ask your kids about the walk they  took in art with their hands.

They were also introduced to sheet music and the particular kinds of shapes and lines that are used to record music.

All these ideas were smooshed together to create fabulous abstract art. These pictures will be featured at Curriculum Night, Look for them in the Kindergarten building, near the gym.
