Two varieties of bean

Interesting to see both white and red beans flowers on plants growing side by side. The white were a stringless variety I grew from seed, but because only a few germinated I bought some runner bean seedlings to make up the numbers. They got a bit mixed up, and once the flowers turn to seed pods I won't know which are which again until I cook them. I'll just need to make sure I get them all picked when young and tender!

Home grown runner beans

This is the first of my runner bean crop this year. I picked them when they were still fairly small so that they were sweet and tender and delicious. I heard on a gardening radio programme that people are having problems with their beans not setting this year, the flowers have dropped off and haven't formed beans. Thankfully I haven't had that problem and am looking forward to picking beans and cooking them straight away most evenings for some time to come.
