Arthur Clayton Rawcliffe was a leading light in classical music composition in the Liverpool area in the first half of the twentieth century, and an accomplished cellist.

He composed humorous pieces with catchy tunes.

As cello player in a string quartet his compositions include many pieces of chamber music.

His Fantasy: To Heather won second prize at the Wallasey Music Festival in 1950, and Serenade for Strings first prize in 1951.
