 Pat Acton, from Comox, BC, has worked in many media, including wood, clay, stone and metal.
A trained stone cutter/carver, he originally worked in wood. At that time, he created his pieces mostly with driftwood gathered from the coastal areas of Vancouver Island, laying the foundation to the intricate work he does today. In creating his mask pieces, he often would spend weeks on each one.
He still uses recycled materials and found objects to create his folk art, metal works and political works -- creating humorous pieces imbued with deeper, often haunting messages. Pat Acton's political pieces are often satirical and, upon scrutiny, reveal serious and macabre imagery using rocks, wood, metal, paint, materials and sheer ingenuity.
He creates his political works on an ongoing basis but generally Pat Acton's new work focuses on his metal sculptures and jewellery. These pieces are original, telling true talent of the man. He reaches deep for his imagery and inspiration, creating works that represent humanity in all its forms. |
