Nelly Kazenbroot

Nelly’s love of art crystallised into something serious when, as a child, she was exposed to art from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. She took all the art courses she could in high school and then continued an art and creative writing education at the University of Victoria and Malaspina College. When she came back to live in Nanaimo with her husband in the mid-eighties, she began winning awards in art and poetry competitions. Nelly went on from there to write and illustrate a series of children’s chapter books for Orca Book Publishers. In the late nineties, she switched from oils to acrylics and began looking for time to paint up some of the images that had been piling up in her mind while she raised her children.
