Lisa developed her interest in art while attending high school at East Surry High located in Pilot Mtn., NC. During her four years there, art was her elective of choice. She enjoyed working with all aspects of visual media, especially with acrylics, pastels and colored pencil.
Upon graduation, Lisa was accepted into the Art program at UNC-Greensboro, NC. She completed a five year program and earned her degree, a B.F.A. in Art with a specialization in Art Education and painting/drawing in the spring of 1993. Upon completion of the program, she received her teaching license for art for grades K-12th.
She accepted her first job as a Middle School Art teacher in Graham, NC and later became an Elementary Art teacher in Winston-Salem N.C. through 1996. She taught art to K-5th grades using a Disciplined-Based Art Education curriculum, organized student work for showings, and also taught art to Special Education classes composed of autistic, TMH and EMH students in the school’s special services division.
In 1997, she was accepted into Penn State’s Graduate Program of the Arts, to pursue a degree in Art Education, with a specialization painting/drawing. Upon completion of the program, she went to continue to teach art in Little Rock, AR and at Florida State University Research School to elementary, junior and senior high students. She jointly supervised interns from the college and organized a mural project and a state-wide display for the college as well.
Currently, Lisa lives with her husband and three children in Collierville, TN. She is excited to be teaching preschool, elementary, secondary, and adult art classes in her home studio this summer of 2010. She also teaches private art lessons (all age groups), host Girl’s Night Out art classes and coordinates art projects for birthday parties. |
