2.21.2010 Every beer we've made to date has been dark, so we figured it was time to make a beer that you could see through in a glass. Our first attempt at an IPA... 7 lb Muntons Extra Light Malt Extract 8 oz Crystal 40 Grain 2 oz Amarillo Hops (boil) 1 oz Chinook Hops (boil) 1 oz Centennial Hops (boil) .5 oz Columbus Hops (finishing) .5 oz Columbus Hops (dry hop) 1 American Ale yeast 1 Orange OG 2.21.2010 1.036 FG 3.24.2012 1.01 ABV% 3.4% Brew Date: 2.21.2010 Our hoppiest adventure yet. Started off by steeping the grains for 20 minutes. When steeping was done, we brought the wort to a boil and added the Extra Light malt extract and the Amarillo Hops. We let this boil for 60 minutes. Added the Chinook Hops and let it boil for another 15 minutes. Centennial Hops were added for the final 5 minutes, along with the orange to give our IPA a hint of citrus. Let's just say that this is where things got interesting (fingers crossed when we try this one). :) We added the .5 of Columbus Hops for an unexpected 5 minutes of boiling and then chilled the wort. After sparging, we took the OG. Thanks to the adventure that we'll leave out, our OG was a bit off. Expected Original Gravity (OG): 1.06 No Draws OG: 1.036 Time for primary fermentation which should be done by 2.28. |
