Adventure Racing is a Sport involving other sports.
It starts with Multisport: Mountain biking, Trail running, Swimming, Paddling
But:
The terrain could include: Kloofs, Trails, Mountains, Rivers, Dams, Marshes.
Sometimes Technical rope work is involved: Abseiling, Jumaring, Traversing
Racers work in teams of 4 and must have a female in each team. Most importantly, it develops fantastic life skills: co-operation, problem solving, strategic thinking,  situational leadership, roles, analytical skills, practical survival, traveling light, adapting to conditions, instinct, personal responsibility, physical fitness, personal goal setting, organisation, prioritizing, handling stress,
The key element is that they have to navigate the best route using maps, compasses and natural terrain features.

The Adventure races range from Short "Sprint races" of 2-4 hrs through "Day" races of a day and some night, to Multi-day races from 200 to 500km. See Wikipedia information Here
