Gifted students are extremely sensitive in a variety of areas. Below are a list of 5 areas a person of the gifted may tend to react in a more strongly manner than the normal student to a stimulus that may be very small. (Dabrowski's Overexcitables)
Psychomotor is often thought to mean that the person needs lots of movement and athletic activity, BUT it can also mean that there can be troublewith settling down the mind's activities for falling asleep. Sometimes there may be lots of energy causing movement, fast talking, lots of gestures, and sometimes nervous tics.
Sensual deals with the overactive sences. This child feels things much more intensly than a normal child. For example - wind blows in a face and the child cries or says it hurts - normal child would not notice. A sock feels rough if it is twisted and hurts or anoys - normal child would just not care. They love smells of some things but can get sick on smells of another.
Imaginational deas with thier imagination - These are the dreamers, poets, "space cadets" who are strong visual thinkers, use lots of metaphorical speech
Intellectual is just that. These are the studnets/people with the high IQ- "giftedness" - Kids with a strong logical thinking skills who love brain teasers and puzzles, enjoy following a line of complex reasoning, figuring things out. A love of things academic, new information, cognitive games, etc.
Emotional children tend to be your overreators to things. They are happier than just happy and sadder than just sad. They need to connect with people and environment. They feel empathy, compassion and can get depressed quickly.
