Using Flash-based Content

While Google Sites does not accept the integration of flash based content, except for YouTube videos, there are several alternatives.

              • Build a flash website exclusively on another free platform (list on the left)
              • Insert a flash component (such as a gallery) created on another platform using an iFrame gadget (howto on the right)

Other Free Platforms

There are several excellent, easy to use platforms for website building, exclusively based on flash. You can create galleries, contact forms, and moving banners.

    • Sign up required (you can always use a fake email), more on this later.
    • Quick to set up, and several hundred templates available for you to choose from.
    • REMEMBER: the URL is based on your email, for example:
http://www.wix.com/The email you used to sign up/your choice here

So if you sign up, use something related to your business (ie. BusinessName @youremailprovider.com) since the red text will be used in your URL

Some others to consider:

    http://www.weebly.com/
    http://wordpress.org/
    http://www.yola.com
    http://www.moonfruit.com/

I  have only had experience with Google sites, Wix, WordPress and Weebly. Yola and moonfruit seem like excellent options as well.

If you decide to incorporate flash into Google Sites, I`d recommend Wix (it`s what we used to make our gallery). See how with the instructions on the right.

iFrame Gadget for Google Sites

Using an iFrame gadget is simple; create a website on Wix for free, and using the gadget, display it on your site.
The iFrame gadget is literally a website within a website. By adjusting the height and width of the gadget, you can avoid Wix`s small advertisements from appearing.
The instructions are below, or watch our video (bottom of page) for a visual guide [Coming soon]

ON THE WIX EDITOR:
  • Sign up and open a Wix account
  • Choose a blank template and edit it
  • Insert a gallery (Add -> Galleries)
  • Place it in the top left corner and remember to match the background of the page to that of your Google Site (same colour)
  • Publish it (for free) and copy the URL

ON GOOGLE SITES
  • Click "Edit page"
  • See here (another page on our site) on how to insert a gadget into your Google Site (acts similar to a Facebook gadget)
  • Search for iFrame and choose one (if it doesn't seem to work, try another one - just in case).
  • Paste the link of your flash gallery when prompted. Remove the "scrolling function"
  • Remember to play around with the height and width of the gadget, to cut off Wix's advertisements on the right and bottom of the flash website.
  • This is what your final product can look like:
