Rick Devenuti President Information Intelligence Group EMC Corporation Rick Devenuti is President of the Information Intelligence Group (IIG), a division of EMC Corporation, the world’s leading developer and provider of information infrastructure technology and solutions. Devenuti was appointed to his current position in October 2010 and reports to Pat Gelsinger, President and Chief Operating Officer, EMC Information Infrastructure Products. In this role, Devenuti oversees all aspects of IIG’s business including worldwide sales and services, channel strategy, product development, marketing, strategic business and financial initiatives, IT, technical support and the Total Customer Experience program. He previously served as chief operating officer of IIG for the past two years. Devenuti comes to EMC following a successful 19-year career at Microsoft Corporation. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of Microsoft Services and IT responsible for strategy and operational performance of Microsoft Enterprise Services, Customer Service and Support, Software-as-a-Service business and IT. In that role, Devenuti significantly expanded the Enterprise Services business, introduced support offerings resulting in improved customer satisfaction and launched Microsoft Managed Services, the company’s first software-as-a-service offering for enterprise customers. Devenuti joined Microsoft in 1987 and focused his career on creating and managing operational excellence. Massive discardia (observed) today as I cleaned out the office area. I had two vertical shelf things devoted to papers, notes, etc. from grad school, and the only things I kept were these notebooks and my diploma. Probably won't keep the notebooks either, but I went ahead and shoved them into the closet -- hence nasty shelving plus lighting -- for the time being. The notebook with the pink band on it, a horrible freebie from an omidyar.net conference, is the one that I filled in a month. With the sketchy damn-fool plans for something I'd like everybody to have, but that doesn't exist, yet. Note that it was a year ago -- if I am cranky this month, that's why. So that's probably the one to discard first. The rest are filled with innocuous cookie cutter masters degree information science junk, e.g. "I has an indifference curve" or "it can be social facilitation time pleez."

Then, from the review of relevant linguistic literature, the author derives two distinct categories of natural language degree expressions and proposes knowledge-intensive algorithms to handle their analyses in the ParseTalk system. Moreover, for inferencing the author generalizes from well-known constraint propagation mechanisms. The concepts and methods developed are applied to text domains from medical diagnosis and information technology magazines.
