YOU KNOW I ALWAYS WANTED TO PRETEND TO BE AN ARCHITECT!
Yesterday evening was my first day of class at Anne Arundel Community College, where I'm taking "History of Western Architecture, Part 1" (the title reminds me of Mel Brooks' "History of the World, Part 1") This is the first time I've taken a "credit" course since 1989. Back then, my tuition for night courses at Johns Hopkins was paid by my rich aunt at BGE. This time, I'm footing the bill, but it's a bargain, and in any event, as a "senior citizen," I only don't pay tuition, just some nominal fee. One of the few times it pays to grow older! Also, not that I didn't get considerable enjoyment (at times) from pursuing my previous degrees in engineering and computers science, but just taking something because I'm curious is very liberating. Another benefit of growing old! I came to this juncture because I found that I got pleasure from taking photos of interesting buildings and architectural details. I think my love of photography will motivate my formal study of architecture, and the study will improve my photography... win-win! By the way, the photo is the former General Electric Building, by Cross & Cross, at 570 Lexington Avenue in NYC. It's my 2nd-favorite building in the world (after Chrysler Building,) and I was fortunate enough to work there from 1975-1983.
