Technology Consultants -- Thomas Archibald, Ph.D.

Recognized expert in highly hazardous and toxic chemicals
Safe Handling and Scale-Up

We provide help with hazardous chemistries: nitric acid, sodium azide, diazomethane, fluorine, hydrazine and other hazardous reagents on an industrial scale including detonable materials.   From process development through transition to commercial manufacturing we can help you chose the best routes, the best partners and the best practices.

My CV and publications can be found on the contact page.  Here is a short introduction to my background:
    •     Currently I am retired to the U.S. Virgin Islands where, in addition to consulting, I work full-time as an associate professor of chemistry at the University of the Virgin Island
    •      Before retirement I was responsible for technology marketing, technology strategy, and intellectual property. I managed research groups of 16 to 25 Ph.D. chemists in California and later at three locations: Boston, Newcastle in the UK, and Lyon, France.  We conducted research and process development of technology licensed for the preparation of chiral molecules and aromatic bond formation reactions from laboratory to multi-metric ton scales.
    •       My scientific advisory board included professors from Harvard University, Scripps Institute, MIT and experts from industry. I also managed external collaborations with ten universities in the U.S. and France and presented technology lectures to the process-development groups of multi-national pharmaceutical and biotech companies. I gave invited lectures at chemical symposia on the industrialization of chiral chemistry.
    •     I was instrumental in the successful merger of several business units and in setting up the new corporate R&D structures for two companies servicing the pharmaceutical industry.  I was also a lead executive on the conversion of a defense company to pharmaceutical manufacture with current sales of $100 million.
