Varsity Boys - Champions of Sterling Wheel & Deal Tournament!  On Saturday, June 27, Aquin defeated Bureau Valley (2A) in the championship game to win the 14 team Wheel & Deal Tournament. To get to the championship, Aquin defeated Sterling Newman (2A), Pontiac (3A), and Sterling (3A). The Wheel & Deal Tournament was comprised of teams from all over Northern Illinois, including 3A teams Sterling, Pontiac, Lombard Montini; 2A Teams Bureau Valley, Oregon, Stillman Valley, Sterling Newman, Peru St. Bede along with local teams Pearl City and Dakota. Congratulations also to our sophomore team which took second place in their eight-team bracket. Sterling Summer League Congratulations to the varsity boys who finished undefeated in the Sterling Summer League. The varsity defeated (in order) Polo, Pearl City, Milledgeville, Amboy, Fulton, Oregon (2A), Bureau Valley(2A), and LaSalle-Peru (3A). Boys Varsity at University of Wisconsin -- Results The varsity team attended the University of Wisconsin Team Camp on June 19-20, at the Kohl Center. We were in a pool comprised of The Howard Pulley 17s (an AAU team from Minneapolis), the Milwaukee Spartans (AAU team), and Oshkosh West High School (school of 2,000 students). While we lost all our pool games, we played up to the very high level of competition. We nearly defeated Oshkosh West...after leading by seven at half, we hit a cold spell and lost the game by five. In our tournament play, we lost our first game against Middleton HS (1,900 students), but again played very well. The team realized what it is like to have to play at the next level and I think the experience will help us in our season. |
