Apslips Flycad was a composer who lived in the bareoque period between 1640 and 1730 he was born in the capital of Romania. There is a memorial to him there at the place where his house once stood. Apslips was very talented. He learned many instruments and wrote lots of great works. When he was 30 he decided to go to America to introduce the Native Americans to his music. Apslips belived that everyone should have a chance to listen to great music at least once during his or her lifetime. He went to spain and persuaded a rich, Spanish merchant to take him across to America on his voyage across the Atlantic. The ship left from barcelona on 22nd April1671. When it was about 400 miles away from America it was hit by a hurricane, which sent it spinning off course; it was washed ashore in the place we know as Cuba. The ship was absolutly destroyed and there was no change of her sailing ever again. While the crew set about building a new ship Apslips met the natives and played his music to them, they adored it. When the new ship was finally built Apslips decided to stay on the island with the natives. He spent the rest of his life there and lived to a good old age of 90, he died in 1730. Although Apslips is not well known in Britain he is famous in both Romania and Cuba. |
