I told you it was coming.... and i didn't lie. When you write a fresh blog like mine, major metropolitan cities pick up on things quick..real quick. What am i talking about you ask?? I have officially move my blog to the following link: http://www.blogsmonroe.com/germany/ Bookmark it, read it, love it. You'll be able to add comments to certain posts, create an RSS feed to it, and possibly email me directly (i haven't decide on this yet). Anyways, don't worry about the format changing it still will be the same writing style and fun intentions behind what i write. Don't think that being read by millions-- i mean tens of readers would change anything. I will also leave this up (since it's free) and come back anytime to sign the guestbook or just reminisce. Any new stuff though will only be at http://www.blogsmonroe.com/germany/ . Did i mention that my site has moved?? Just in case you missed it, it will be located at the following link: http://www.blogsmonroe.com/germany/
This blog isn't just about.... driving and food. I also want to include German style, tv, habits, etc. And German TV is almost as crazy as Japaneese TV. I was just flipping through the channels and saw a show called "Hot or Not" (it's just like the web site) except for one thing. They have the people being judged walk down a runway and get judged by the 3 judges in front of their face! I think I count 3 girls that cried and 1 guy that got real pissed too when the judges said they were "NOT". I couldn't understand a word but at least it was entertaining. Germans Love.... their round-a-bouts at intersections. Instead of having a simple traffic light or 4 way stop there's a round-a-bout. At first it looks like mass chaos, but it actually works pretty well.
Renaissance Festivals are... not my thing, but, when one is held in actual castle from at least 500 years ago i can get interested real quick. I went to one today and took some pictures actually! Check out the link to the right under the "Travel Pics" section. The Autobahn... Is the most amazing thing ever created. Seriously. It sounds stupid, but the laws in place for driving on it make it less dangerous to drive fast on. I mean really fast too!! I drove up to Frankfurt today and top speed recorded by the GPS was 107 mph ;) Just to so you know, i was still getting passed by people. The food here is good but... they don't put any sauces/cheese on things. I am not saying the food is bad by any means, but just a little different. I had a "schnitzel sandwich" last night and there was no mayonaisse (sp?), mustard, or cheese. Just bread, lettuce, tomato, and the schnitzel. It was still good though. Now that i'm driving.... i realized how crazy that drive over here. You know how you fealt when you first got your license --a little nervous, trying to obey the laws, etc. Well if you multiple that by 15 then that's how i feel when i'm driving. I have my hands at "10 and 2" the whole time because they're crazy here. Rental Car agencies.... suck. I make a reservation and ask for the smallest car that is automatic, and they say i get a Benz A Class. Instead when i get to the place i get a Ford Mondeo Station Wagon -- no joke! They love station wagons here, seriously. They have Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Ford, etc all have station wagons that a lot of people have. They all have one thing in common though----they're ugly. Guestbook is off.... and running. I'm glad it's working and people are using it. I love the comments and keep them coming. I finally passed.... the stupid German Drivers Test. I am humble enough to admit that I failed it the 1st time, but this is not your regular driving test. Imagine having to know what signs mean that are in a different language, converting meters/kilometers, and turning the USA rules upside down. This is what the test is like. Example--- We all know what a blinking light in the US means, but in Germany, it means that you are REQUIRED to stop at the intersection before proceeding. Also some intersections don't have any signs at all. Imagine coming to an intersection in the country with no stop signs, what would you do??? In Germany, they use the "right before left" idea. If a car is to your right, then they have the right away. This is the place I live in....and now drive. Ch Ch Changes...... Possible changes coming to the blog. I guess when you right a blog that is as sweet as mine, people take notice. ;) Anyways, it's good stuff happening, a better interface for you guys and hopefully easier formatting for me. Not sure when this will happen though. German Radio/Music... is crazy. I was suprised to see that a lot of the radio stations play mostly American music. This is great though, because that last thing i want to do is drive listening to Ramstein (the band) the whole time. They even do this in the restaurants as well. What's crazy is that while in a restaurant the other night the music went from Eminem -> to TuPac -> to Britney Spears -> to some German stuff. It was a good selection, just really random. What was more random was that the 50-ish year old man working at the place was whistleing the Eminem song. I'm not complaining though, just some observations. Blog getting some hits... Well it looks like a few of you have visited my my site and i would like to say Danke (thanks) for that. A few (mainly Nichole) has asked for a guestbook so people could send a message quickly. So i found this free guestbook online . It would be nice if it was on the same page, but i can't do HTML so this will have to do. Leave a message and any suggestions of what you'd like to know and i'll do my best German Beer.. Is good, well i guess that was kinda obvious. But i have had a bunch of different kinds and haven't really had a bad one yet. They are sold in "racks" not cases and are about 50% larger than US bottles. Also about 1-2% stronger. I had one that was 7.2% this weekend :) German drivers are crazy Enough said really. We were going around 100 mph (150kmh) and were getting passed like we were out for a sunday drive. Kinda fun, kinda scary. Did You know..... The mullet is international. Germany has it's fair share and they sport them proudly, I have seen it with my own eyes. The German word for Highway exit is Ausfarht. And yes, it sounds just like how you think it does. First Impression So far, it hasn't been too much of a culture shock. Language is a big factor, obviously, but food is good, the play american music on the radio, and eventually i will be able to get some english TV. Right now i am limited to CNN International -- Did you know that India is getting 200-700% more rainfall than normal right now? (This is my sad entertainment) Flight Excitement Well in case you didn't know, the flight went pretty well. Except for crazy smelly Germany guy next to me. He spilt beer on me twice, started arguing in German with the people in front of me and looked like Bob the Bum (if you're from Monroe, you know what i mean) I'm serious about that though, he could have been his long lost brother. | SIGN THE GUESTBOOK Travel Pics:I got around to taking pictures finally.
