Approve Referendum 71
If passed, Referendum 71 will uphold Washington state's "everything but marriage" domestic partnership law, which was passed by the state Senate in March, passed by the state House in April, and signed into law by Governer Gregoire in May of 2009. It shouldn't even be on the ballot. Why is it OK to put people's civil rights up for a vote? But it is on the ballot, so if you live in Washington state, please vote to approve it. There was a rally and march in support of 71 in Seattle and other cities. Update, November '09: Referendum 71 was approved by the voters! Thank you, Washington state!
DOT Appropriations/Child Safety Restraints Bill Signing
At a ceremony at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, Governor Culver signed Senate File 2381, the transportation appropriations bill, which provides about $350 million for Department of Transportation functions, motor vehicle operations, and support for country treasurers responsible for issuing drivers' licenses, along with millions for planning and projects. The bill also includes a provision requiring children up to age 18 to use a safety belt or approved car seat.
