E-Conference Project

APPNA MERIT E-Conference ("Electronic Conference") initiative is creating live web conferences between US and Pakistan to bring the latest in medical knowledge to Pakistani teaching institutions. The first live E-conference in Neurology which was specially organized for Pakistan was broadcast from APPNA's 32nd Annual Summer Meeting in San Francisco, July 2nd (US)/July 3rd (Paksitan), 2009. Over 200 senior and junior faculty including dept. heads attended at 6 Pakistani teaching institutions, heard the talks, and engaged in extensive discussions. The Pakistani sites included Aga Khan University, Dow University of Health Sciences, King Edward Medical University, University of Health Sciences (Lahore), Rawalpindi Medical College, and Lahore Medical College. The conferece was extremely well received in Pakistan. Based on this positive feedback, APPNA's Executive Committee approved funding for E-Conferences as an ongoing MERIT project at APPNA's Fall Meeting 2009.

APPNA MERITnets will organize regular E-conferences for Pakistan by taking advantage of the gathering of experts at various annual specialty meetings such as the annual conference of the American Society of Anesthesiology and other such speciaty gatherings.
