An APPNA MERIT Visiting Faculty Member at DOW § Dr. Iqbal Ratnani, a Board Certified Intensivist, Asst. Prof. of Medicine in Clinical Anesthesiology, and chief editor of online Critical Care website www.icuroom.net went for 2 weeks in Nov-Dec 2007 to Dow as an APPNA MERIT visiting faculty member § As MERIT faculty, Dr. Ratnani received sponsorship of Pak. Govt.’s Visiting Expatriate Pakistani Consultant (VEPCON) program, which pays for travel and stay expenses. § Dr. Ratnani provided training for 2 weeks in multiple aspects of Critical Care Medicine via group lectures, seminars, bedside rounds and hand-on workshops. § Different sessions were conducted for medical students, medical technologists, post graduate students and faculty staff. § 2 full length lectures were delivered every day at ARAG auditorium. Topics covered included basics of Critical Care Medicine, evaluation of critically ill patients, evaluation of critical labs, ARDS, Basics of Ventilators, Sepsis, Recent guidelines of treating sepsis, Hemodynamics, Iontropes and Vasopressors. § Workshops were conducted on ABGs, Ventilators and hemodynamics. § Hands-on training was performed for various procedures including intubations, central lines and swan ganz catheter. § Lectures were also delivered to students at Institute of Medical Technology and Nursing school along with lecture at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, F B area, Karachi.
