amuse trio Steve and I decided to get the tasting menu at Cafe Boulud, which was not listed on the menu, but mentioned on the restaurant website. It was 5 courses (plus dessert) decided by the chef, within my allergy limits, of course. The chef there is Gavin Kaysen, who has appeared on The Next Iron Chef (contestant) and Top Chef (guest judge). We saw him when he stopped by one of other the tables, and I pointed him out to Steve. (Steve has a bad memory for names and faces...) Anyway, here is what we were served first, after the initial arancini: Roasted Beet Terrine Maytag Blue Cheese Mousse, Toasted Walnuts, Endive, Citrus Gelee New Brunswick Oyster Arancini (same as before) My beet terrine didn't have the walnut or other little garnishes, but it did have the blue cheese, which was part of that little square. The combination was good. The oyster was small, like I like them, and we were not at all sad to have to eat another of the arancini with fontina and black truffle. And now for something completely different
Sky of blue and sea of green, in our yellow submarine... Just goofing around, wanted to see how hard it would be to make a slide duplicator. It wasn't too bad really, the materials list consists of two things: a toilet paper tube and a Maytag washing machine. Another brand of washer might do just as well, I'd have to test it first before I recommended it.
