Our Apple Varieties

We have several varieties from late summer through early fall.  Varieties are listed in order of harvest, beginning in July and ending in late October.  Every apple growing season is different.  In general, harvest for this year is a couple weeks ahead of schedule.


 Transparent

   Fourth of July

Small to medium apple.  Greenish-yellow in color with a tart taste.  Known best for its excellent tasting applesauce!

 
 Pristine

  Late July

Beautiful lemon-yellow apple with perfect finish.  This high quality apple is a good keeper for an early apple.  Sweet! 

 
 William's Pride

  2nd Week of August

Fruit is medium in size, slightly conic in shape, with rich aromatic flavor.  Apples are 70-80% red.  Excellent eating quality! 

 
 Red Free

  2nd Week of August
Medium size, glossy fruit with 90% bright red color.  Smooth, waxy, russet-free skin.  Light flesh is crisp and juicy.
 
 Gala

 
 Mid August 

A medium size, red over yellow colored apple.  Very sweet, with a hint of pear flavor.  Gala’s are great for applesauce, pies, and other desserts.  An excellent choice for those who are diabetic because no sugar needs to be added.  Considered dessert quality!

 MacIntosh

  Late August

An old favorite.  Thin skinned, mild sweet/tart flavor.  Deep red in color with some green.  An excellent all purpose apple.

 Jonathan

   Late August

Another very old heirloom variety.  Tart, crisp, and juicy.  It is still one of the most popular apples in the world.  They are excellent for cooking as well as eating!

 Honeycrisp

   Late August

 Tastes like its name.  Very crisp, honeyed sweet flavor.  A large red over yellow apple.  Wildly popular, good for everything!

 
 Cortland

   Early September

An extra large, crisp, white-fleshed apple.  It has a sweet/tart flavor.  A “MacIntosh type”, only more crisp and more flavor than a Mac.  Excellent for pies and sauce!

A large beautiful deep red apple.  Very sweet, good for fresh eating and waldorf salad.
 
 Golden Delicious

 
Mid September

A large, yellow apple with lighter colored flecks in the skin.  Sweet, mildly tart flavor with nice crisp flesh.  Not just for eating, they make wonderful pie, applesauce, and apple crisp!

 Northern Spy

  Mid September

Large round, often flattened, greenish yellow with striped pinkish red.  Crisp, juicy yellowish flesh.  Tart and aromatic.  Excellent all purpose apple except for drying.

 
 Shizuka

 
Late September

Same parentage as Mutsu (Crispin).  Large green to somewhat yellow apple.  Sweeter with less acid than Mutsu.  Excellent flavor.

Originally known as “Crispin”, it never became popular until the Japanese bought the patent and renamed it “Mutsu”.  An extra larege, green apple that is slightly tart off the tree, becoming sweet in storage.  Some customers prefer it above all other apples!  An excellent all purpose apple!

Late September

Cross between Jonathan and Golden Delicious.  Sweet and tart at the same time.  A large, red over yellow colored apple with a nice crisp texture.  A truly versatile apple, good for everything!

 Suncrisp

  Early October
Flavor is sweet, yet mildly subacid.  Said to be intense.  Cream colored flesh, good looking yellow apple with orange/red blush.

Green, crisp and tart.  Excellent keeper.  Good for pies!

Very sweet flavor and crisp texture.  Dessert quality apple!

 Gold Rush

  Mid October
Fruit is conic-round, medium to large, with a deep uniform greenish-yellow color.  Flesh is hard, very crisp and breaking.  Sugar-acid balance slightly favors tartness at harvest, mellowing slightly in storage.
