    The Galileo Affair

    Introduction

This document was created to be a resource for information regarding the Galileo affair. In this document I intend to address the following questions:

    • Does the Galileo Affair demonstrate the Church was or is at odds with Science?
    • Does the Galileo affair demonstrate the Doctrine of Papal Infallibility is false?
    • Was Galileo Tortured?
    • Was Galileo persecuted for telling the truth?
    • Was Galileo treated unjustly?

Though this page is a work in progress which will be added to over time, I would like to begin by recommending a book, "The Crime of Galileo" by Giorgio de Santillana. It is a book which I believe firmly, gives for the most part, a refreshingly objective account of the events surrounding the Galileo affair. It is written by a man who was not Catholic, and definitely not overly fond of the Church.
