Letter fron John Rose about the PC Survey Program:

August 13, 2008

Dear Colleagues:

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for supporting our Surveying Technology program.  The Phoenix College Surveying Technology program is turning out surveyors who are driven, ambitious and, most of all dedicated to the field of surveying.  Since 1998 we have produced 7 graduates, 26 L.S.I.T.’s and 20 R.L.S.’s. We can’t take full credit for this success because your support of education plays a large role. Our student population of 70 - 80 students is there because of your support but their participation in our program certainly helps them get ready.

We are offering five classes this Fall and our educational experience can benefit not only the individual, but your company as well. As you know the Surveying profession gives the employee independence from direct supervision, but with that freedom a certain amount of risk is involved.  Having educated employees making sound decisions in the field greatly enhances your company’s ability and reputation as well as protect your professional registration and liability.

The Surveying staff this semester includes Jim Cristea, Brian Fisher, Joe Todaro, Michael Gatewood, Ron Dry, and I.  We are all professionals in our field and each have several years experience in the surveying and education fields.  At $65.00 per credit hour our classes are affordable and offered in time periods that do not interfere with survey work schedules (4:30 PM to 7:00 PM) and Saturdays.

We have never cancelled a class due to low admissions in the 10 years that I have been teaching but a recent administrative change says that PC will cancel classes with low numbers by the third week of August, rather than the last week of registration in August.  This means your people need to sign up as soon as possible to insure the classes are available.  Please encourage your personnel to attend.  APLS offers a scholarship for students in need that can be downloaded on this site.

Our benefits include:

  • Shorter timeline for eligibility for LSIT/R.L.S. with education
  • Comprehensive classroom and laboratory environment
  • Modern equipment and techniques as well as basic instruction of surveying principles
  • Concepts and problems directly related to the student’s job
  • Field trips and guest lecturers that offer hands on application and instructions from industry experts in the fields of GPS, photogrammetry and GIS

I believe you will find Phoenix College is a vibrant learning environment that can benefit all of your personnel – R.L.S.’s, engineers, party chiefs, CAD techs, instrument and rod persons – as well as your organization.  Experienced personnel can possibly enter higher level classes without the prerequisites if their experience warrants it.  Please contact me if this is the case.  The Fall 2008 schedule begins August 23rd and the schedule is listed below. You can enroll on line (http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/), phone (602-285-7777) or visit our campus at 1202 West Thomas Road in Phoenix.

Thanks again for your active interest in producing surveyors that will make a difference and continue the great legacy that we inherited.

Sincerely Yours,

John J. Rose, R.L.S.
