My father was diagnosed with aplastic anemia in the year 2007. Even though i happen to work in a medical college (I have degree in MSc Medical Physiology, currently doing PhD in Physiology) i had difficulty finding information about the disease, treatment involved and the hospitals in India providing treatment for the disease.

Taking care of a patient with aplastic anemia is very difficult, it is even more diffiult to provide him the right treatment. For this you need the right doctor, in this instance a hematologist with considerable experience and the facility to provide support for such a patient.

I also had difficulty in finding WBC filters in my part of the country.During the treatment of my father, i came across many people who were well educated but had no idea of the disease. There were many who refused to  donate blood, bone marrow and blood components to their very own brothers suffering from this disease.

All these factors made me think about a way to increase the awarness about aplastic anemia in India , help patient and their relatives get the latest information on the disease process and related information.

My father is still under treatment for very sevre acquired aplastic anemia.
